How to Remove Sealant – Our Process

Whether you're removing sealant from your glass shower screen, metal laundry tub or tiled splashback, the good news is that for the most part, the process is exactly the same!
  1. Cut away the worst of the sealant using a sharp blade or sealant remover tool.
  2. Ensure the surfaces are completely dry.
  3. Apply Selleys Sealant Remover on the surface of the old silicone layering it about 5mm high (ensure you apply to a small area to test first).
  4. Allow 10 minutes for thin beads of sealant to soften. Note that it can be significantly longer if the sealant is not cut back first and may require multiple applications. It is important to make sure the remover does not dry out while you wait the couple of hours for it to soften the silicone.
  5. Once the remover has softened the sealant, you can clean the sealant residue up with mineral turpentine – do not use water.
  6. Next step is to apply new sealant to the area. Click here for the guide.
