What You Need

How to Remove Silicone

  1. Cut away the worst of the sealant using a sharp blade.
  2. Ensure the surfaces are completely dry.
  3. Apply Selleys Silicone Remover on the old silicone layering it about 3mm high (ensure you apply to a small area to test first).
  4. Allow 2-4 hours for thin beads of sealant to soften. Note that it can be significantly longer if the silicone is not cut back first and may require multiple applications. It is important to make sure the remover does not dry out while you wait the couple of hours for it to soften the silicone.
  5. Once the remover has softened the silicone, you can clean the silicone residue up with methylated spirits – do not use water.
  6. Next step is to apply new sealant to the area. Click here for the guide.
