How To Restore Dining Chairs

What You Need

• Selleys Original Sugar Soap
• Methylated spirits &/or mineral turpentine
• Soft cloth
• Paint stripper such as Selleys Kwik Strip (if required)
• Paint primer
• Paint tray
• Paint roller or brush

How To Guide

Step 1: Identify any cracks, scratches or other damage that needs to be repaired and select the appropriate adhesive or filler for the job. Selleys Aquadhere is the best for wooden chairs.

Step 2: Clean all surfaces of the chair using Selleys Original Sugar Soap. If the chair surface is made from a non-porous material such as metal, clean the surface with mineral turpentine and then again with methylated spirits.

Step 3: If there is old, difficult to remove residue such as old paint, we recommend using paint stripper such as Selleys Kwik Strip. Ensure the surface is dry before applying the product

Step 4: Pour a small amount of primer into a paint tray, and apply using a combination of your roller and brush to coat the chair evenly in a layer of primer.

Step 5: Allow the primer to dry completely.

Step 6: Use a fresh roller to coat the rest of the chair in your paint. Wait until the first coat is dry, then apply a second coat of paint.

Step 7: Depending on how uneven your surface is, you might want to apply one more coat of paint and leave to dry.

Step 8: Paint your chairs in contrasting colours for a fun ensemble, or stick to a single colour to create a striking monotone look.
